Prerequisite: L6241 Evidence.
In Spring, enrollment limited to 12 students.
Open to second and third year students who have completed L6241, Evidence. This seminar does not fulfill the legal writing requirement.
Working with a case file, the students learn to litigate a case in court. A text book serves as a general guide for the students to understand the fundamental principles of trying cases, while in-class presentations allow for individual students to practice the skills. The course covers opening statements, direct and cross examination, impeachment and rehabilitation of witnesses, and summations. At the end of the term, the students conduct a 1/2 day trial downtown, before New York State judges, in courtrooms of the New York State courthouse.
