This class will focus on the construction and application of the provisions of the United States Constitution???its history, text, structure, consequences, doctrine, and ethos.
This class will be conducted through an examination of two texts: The Bill of Rights (Akhil Amar) and Constitutional Interpretation (Philip Bobbitt). Each week the author of one of these books will describe the reading therein assigned for the class; this will be followed by a critical response by the other author, which in turn will be followed by questions from the class.
There will be two papers, each on a topic drawn from one of the two books.
