This one-credit intensive seminar will invite students to explore the unique challenges and responsibilities of ethical law practice in the Federal Government. Anticipated topics include formulating binding legal advice in the Executive Branch, identifying clients and applying privilege doctrines, and handling inter-branch conflict. We will also discuss ethics rules generally applicable to externs, recent developments in ethics rules, and opportunities for reform and improvement of ethics enforcement systems.
The course will meet for three hours daily from Tuesday, January 22, through Friday, January 25, 2013. It is a required program component for students participating in the full-semester Externship on the Federal Government in Washington, DC.
