This course will explore the roles of federal government lawyers in Washington, DC. It is designed to complement students' full-time externship field placements by developing specialized skills, providing insight into unique Washington institutions, and exploring select legal topics. The course will leverage our environment in Washington by featuring frequent guest speakers and seeking connections to current questions of law, legal policy, and legal institutions. Course requirements include in-class participation, a mid-term self-evaluation of externship field placement performance, and three short papers (of 4-5 pages).
The course will meet weekly from September through December 2012, with a handful of other meetings to accommodate guest speakers. It is a required program component for students participating in the full-semester Externship on the Federal Government in Washington, DC.
