This course examines the fundamental legal and business building blocks of real estate transactions. It employs a transactional approach (with planning problems) by examining the legal and business issues that arise in commercial and residential transactions in the context of relevant documentation. Topics covered include the role of the attorney in the transaction, broker participation and responsibilities, risks encountered at the contract stage and remedies for breach, financing options, the title closing and post-closing risks, the title system in the U.S., and mortgage defaults and remedies.
