This course aims to survey the historical foundations and development of American law. Themes and topics include constitutionalism, the law of employment and the family, the development of the legal profession, the Civil War and Reconstruction, the making of the modern administrative state, law and sexuality, the law of race relations, the history of American legal thought, the New Deal, and the Civil Rights Movement.
