In this course students begin to learn and work with the skills in research, writing, and analysis that they will need in legal practice. In Part 1 of the course, which is taught in the fall semester, students receive intensive training through written assignments placed in practice contexts, seminar discussions, and personal conferences. In Part 2, which is taught in the spring, students continue to build on the skills learned in the fall. In addition, students learn about appellate advocacy as they research, write, and argue an appellate brief through the Foundation Year Moot Court program or one of the alternative intramural competitions (see Foundation Year Moot Court).
