Akua is originally from Ghana, West Africa. Akua is a 1997 graduate of the University of Iowa Law School. She came to New York from the University of Iowa, where she was Assistant Director of Cross-Cultural Programming and Outreach. She has worked as a counselor for at-risk high school students through the Upward Bound Project. Akua has traveled and lived in several countries in Europe, East and West Africa, and North America. She has been managing Columbia's Human Rights Internship and Public Service Fellowship Programs and counseling students interested in international public interest law since 2001.
