The Center for Chinese Legal Studies, founded in 1983 by Professor R. Randle Edwards, continues to play its pioneering role in promoting the study of Chinese law and the exchange of Chinese and American legal scholars. Its Journal of Chinese Law has earned a reputation as one of the leading and most highly respected periodicals on Chinese law in the world. Under the direction of Professor Edwards, students manage, edit, and publish the Journal. Professor Edwards teaches an introductory course on Chinese law. In addition, he oversees with other Columbia faculty an interdisciplinary program on constitutionalism and China. This seminar involves both Columbia scholars from other departments and many scholars from mainland China, Taiwan, and Korea. Professor Edwards also supervises the exchange of Chinese and American legal scholars between China and the United States.
