The opening up of Eastern Europe, the prospect of a truly unified market in Western Europe, the likelihood of further arrangements aimed at eliminating trade obstacles in Latin America, tremendous growth in arbitration and other forms of alternative dispute resolution, and the emerging reality of a functioning United Nations mechanism for maintaining world peace all offer challenging opportunities for American lawyers to play an important role in international affairs. In paying heed to the directives of the late Judge Parker, the School named after him will continue to make its contributions toward preparing American lawyers for this role.
