Since the Center's inception more than a quarter century ago, and especially under the recent direction of Professor Curtis J. Milhaupt, the activities and reputation of the Center have grown in tandem with the increasing presence of Japanese students and scholars at Columbia Law School.

The Center administers several programs for students interested in Japanese law at Columbia, including the NHK student group, opportunities to study abroad at two universities in Japan, and fellowships and jobs. In recent years, more Columbia Law School students have obtained jobs in Tokyo than students of any other major U.S. university.
