Human Rights In the US

Through its Human Rights in the U.S. Project, the Institute works with U.S. lawyers to promote the use of international human rights standards in domestic litigation and advocacy, to expand domestic advocacy efforts to include U.N. and regional mechanisms, and to encourage collaborations that combine legal and other human rights strategies, such as documentation, organizing and education work.  HRI directly contributes to the development of new legal theories and positive precedents based on international law arguments through work on selected litigation before U.S. courts and in the U.N. and Inter-American human rights systems. The Institute also supports the development of legal theories and advocacy strategies based on international law through training and capacity building, expert workshops and networking and coordination among advocacy groups.
