Central European University Diploma: CEU-TOTAL LAW Diploma in Advanced European Union Legal Practice Location: Budapest Application Deadline: April 4, 2007 The focus of the Program is on the Practice of European Union Law, providing insider hands-on analysis of the functioning of key processes of the European Union. As such, it constitutes an excellent course for those wishing to deepen their knowledge in the field or to prepare for working in or with EU institutions. The method of instructions follows the 'Total Law' concept pioneered in the College of Europe, Natolin. Concrete practices such as judicial decisions, the legislative process, treaty negotiations etc. are explored in their economic, social and political contexts with insights borrowed from American and Scandinavian Legal Realism.
The Total Law teaching team, led by Joseph Weiler, Jean Monnet Chair and Director of the Global Law School Program at New York University School of Law, is a unique blend of well-known academics and senior officials working in the European Union institutions who have also written widely in the field. The members of his team are José M. de Areilza, Professor of European Union Law and Vice Dean of Legal Studies at Instituto de Empresa, Madrid; Kieran Bradley, member of the Legal Service of the European Parliament, Brussels; Damian Chalmers, Reader in EU law at the London School of Economics and Political Science; Miguel Poiares Maduro, Advocate General at the European Court of Justice, Luxembourg and Professor of European and International Law at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, and Imola Streho, coordinator of the Team, référendaire at the European Court of Justice, Luxembourg.
The coursework will consist of seminars, workshops and daily assignments that will be completed individually or in group. A basic knowledge of European Union Law is required to follow this advanced course. Jean Monnet Chair International Seminar: INTEGRATING EUROPE IN A CHANGING WORLD Date: July 2007 Location: Rome Application Deadline: April 1, 2007 The Jean Monnet Chair International Summer Seminar "Integrating Europe in a Changing World", organized by the European Office of the University of Rome "Tor Vergata" and the Jean Monnet Chair, will once again intellectually stimulate and challenge students from across the World. The Seminar will be organized in collaboration with the Center for American Studies and it goes under the patronage of prestigious local and international institutions. As usual it will include, among its speakers, top policy makers, academicians and diplomats.
The Summer Seminar will gather top students and young professional from across the world. The first week will examine "the state of the Union", one year after the enlargement, while in the second week it will focus on the EU's external relations, with particular attention to Transatlantic Relations. As usual the summer seminar will be highly intensive, with 60 teaching hours (8 ECTS, 4 US credits) during the two weeks and the possibility to defend a paper on a given topic for further credits.
