Professor Hu's areas of specialization include jurisprudence, human rights theory, law and social theory. Huang Xuetao
Horizon Law Firm, Shenzhen
Ms. Huang has been involved in many high-profile casesin China involving involuntary commitment and "re-education." A community activist, she is also the first Chinese blogger on public and mental health issues. She authored "Proposal for Preventing the Abuse of Involuntary Confinement," which awaits discussion in Parliament. At Columbia, she is studying the American experience with deinstitutionalizing the mentally disabled, with an aim to construct a critical analysis of the mental health system in China. Xia Hui
Legal Aid Center, Ministry of Justice, Beijing
Ms. Xia provides direct legal aid and conducts policy-oriented research. She also manages the Canada-China Legal Aid and Community Legal Services Project, which includes organizing legal aid workshops, training, and education for Chinese lawyers. She also works for legal-system reform and ensuring the quality of free legal services. At Columbia, she is developing measurable indicators for the quality of legal aid in China by analyzing the American legal aid experience. Ms. Xia is a PILI Fellow. (hxia@law.columbia.edu)
Zhou Qiong
