SUMMARY:New York State's 50 Hour Pro Bono Requirement\: A Catalyst for Access to Justice Projects
DESCRIPTION:All applicants to the New York State Bar will have to perform 50 hours of pro bono service by the time they apply, starting in 2015. Panelists will discuss the State's requirement,  Columbia's pro bono requirement, and how good pro bono project design leads to pro bono partnerships that promote access to justice in the United States and other countries. Speakers will be Miriam Buhl, Pro Bono Counsel at Weil, Gotshal and Manges LLP, Marlene Halpern, Supervising Attorney for The Legal Aid Society's Pro Bono Practice, and Ellen Chapnick, Dean for Social Justice Initiatives at Columbia.. Sponsored by Social Justice Initiatives and Graduate Legal Studies. Pizza will be served.
