DESCRIPTION:Gene Schaerr of Winston &amp; Strawn, LLP and Prof. Philip Hamburger will discuss the evolution of jury trials. Special focus will be placed on the relationship between judge and jury. Non-pizza lunch will be served.Gene Schaerr is a litigation partner in Winston &amp; Strawn's Washington, D.C. office and chair of the firm&#8217;s nationwide appellate, critical motions, and constitutional litigation practice. Mr. Schaerr previously clerked for Justice Antonin Scalia, Justice Warren Burger, and the Honorable Kenneth W. Starr. He also served as associate counsel for President George H.W. Bush.Prof. Philip Hamburger is the Maurice and Hilda Friedman Professor of Law at Columbia Law School.  He previously taught at the University of Chicago Law School where he served as the director of the legal history program.
