This award-winning documentary chronicles the day-to-day challenges facing three of the nearly 200 public defenders who are part of Gideon's Promise and working throughout the South as they fight to achieve justice for their indigent clients. Formerly the Southern Public Defender Training Center, Gideon's Promise is a non-profit organization committed to building a generation of public defenders in the nation’s most broken systems to lead the effort to make equal justice a reality. A Q&A with Gideon's Promise Founder and President Jonathan Rapping will follow. Rapping is also Associate Professor and Director of the Honors Program in Criminal Justice at Atlanta's John Marshall Law School.
Co-sponsored by the Black Law Students Association (BLSA), Civil Rights Law Society (CRLS), Criminal Justice Action Network (CJAN), Jailhouse Lawyer's Manual (JLM), Latino/A Law Students Association (LaLSA), and Social Justice Initiatives. Refreshments will be served.
