This infosession, hosted by the Office of International and Comparative Law Programs, will focus primarily on our innovative Global Alliance Programs with Amsterdam, Paris (Sciences Po and Paris 1), and Oxford. Each study abroad program focuses on a specific area of law. The Amsterdam and Paris programs entail a full academic year. with the fall semester spent at Columbia and the spring semester abroad. The Paris program awards participants a certificate while the Amsterdam program confers a double degree concluding with an LL.M from the University of Amsterdam.

, director of the Amsterdam Alliance program for the University of Amsterdam. Professor Mettraux will make a brief presentation about the Amsterdam program and discuss his extensive experiences and the opportunities available in the field of international criminal law.

Dr. Guénaël Mettraux
Dr. Guénaël Mettraux is a Defense counsel before international criminal jurisdictions. Over the past decade, he has represented several high-ranking military and civilian leaders accused of international crimes, including General Sefer Haliloviæ (former Commander of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina), Ljube Boškoski (former Minister of Interior of the Republic of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia) and General Ante Gotovina (General in the Croatian Army). He is now counsel for one of the four defendants charged before the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (related to the killing of former Lebanese Prime Minister, Rafik Hariri).
He is a Panel member of the European Union’s Human Rights Review Panel (EULEX Kosovo). Dr Mettraux is currently Professor at the University of Amsterdam (The Netherlands) and guest lecturer at the University of Fribourg (Switzerland). His scholarly works include three books: “International Crimes and the ad hoc Tribunals (OUP, 2005), “Perspectives on the Nuremberg Trial” (OUP, 2008) and “The Law of Command Responsibility” (OUP, 2009), which was awarded the Lieber Prize from the American Society of International Law
