The Center for Appellate Litigation (CAL) is a 20 attorney non-profit law firm that handles appeals and post-conviction proceedings on behalf of indigent criminal defendants convicted in Manhattan and the Bronx. Providing outstanding oral and written appellate advocacy is our core mission, and the office has won important victories in the areas of double jeopardy, expert identification and search and seizure in the Court of Appeals. The office is also committed to finding dynamic approaches to serve our clients. We search for new evidence outside the appellate record, help our clients with issues relating to their conditions of confinement and re-entry into society, and petition for re-sentencing in the trial courts. Information about available positions can be obtained from our website, CAL particularly welcomes applications from people of color; people with disabilities; and gay, lesbian and transgender people.

Representatives from CAL will meet with Columbia students interested in developing a Kirkland & Ellis Public Interest Fellowship proposal to work at CAL.
