Uncontested Divorce Workshop: Pro Bono Training

-- 08:00 PM EDT
Law student volunteers participating in the Uncontested Divorce Workshop help victims of domestic violence attain uncontested divorces from their abusers. Under the supervision of attorneys from Sanctuary for Families, each two-student team meets with a client and helps her prepare and file papers for the divorce process. From this process, students can get experience working directly with a client while developing a better understanding of the issue of domestic violence. Students begin work with a client in the fall and final papers are usually filed by early spring. The time commitment for this project is usually a total of 10-15 hours for the whole year. Please RSVP with your name and class year at CLS to firstname.lastname@example.org.
UDW is open to all students (JDs and LL.M.s) and counts toward fulfilling Columbia’s mandatory pro bono requirement for 2Ls and 3Ls. In order to participate in UDW, you must attend the training session (unfortunately, we can't make any exceptions). This is the only training at Columbia, but there are other trainings in the NY area over the course of the next couple of weeks that CLS students can attend. If you're interested in seeing this schedule, please e-mail Tamara (email@example.com). Note that if you choose to attend one of these trainings, you MUST RSVP with the coordinator in advance so that we can tell the coordinators at other schools to expect you! Still have questions? Feel free to contact Tamara O'Flaherty at firstname.lastname@example.org.
