Dr. Ebadi is an Iranian champion of human rights. She was the first female judge in Iranian history and served until the1979 Revolution. After her ouster as judge and subsequent resignation from the justice system, she turned to her own legal practice and publishing. She has represented victims of gender and political violence in Iran. She is the author of numerous books and articles on human rights, family law, and rights of the child in Iran.
