Albie Sachs, a former judge in the Constitutional Court of South Africa, will discuss his recent book, The Strange Alchemy of Life and Law.

Albie Sachs was injured in a car bombing due to his participation in the ANC's fight against apartheid in South Africa. He spent part of his recuperation at Columbia Law School. Later, Nelson Mandela appointed him to be a judge on the Constitutional Court of South Africa,, where he wrote many historic opinions.  At this lunchtime talk, Justice Sachs will discuss his recent book, The Strange Alchemy of Life and Law, in which he offers a personal account of his fifteen years on the constitutional court - mixing autobiography with his views on the nature of adjudication and the achievement of social justice through law.  Professor Jack Greenberg will introduce his good friend.
