Addressing the Epidemic of Domestic Violence in Indian Country by Restoring Tribal Sovereignty

As part of Domestic Violence Awareness Week, Matthew L.M. Fletcher will be discussing domestic violence in Native American communities.  Professor Fletcher is an Associate Professor at Michigan State University College of Law and Director of the Indigenous Law and Policy Center.  He sits as an appellate judge for the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians, the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians, and the Hoopa Valley Tribe, and is a consultant to the Seneca Nation of Indians Court of Appeals. He has worked as a staff attorney for four Indian Tribes and has litigated over 20 tribal court cases.
