Law School Associations

The Columbia Law School Association

It is the purpose and mission of the Columbia Law School Association (the “Association”) to keep the graduates, friends and supporters of the Columbia University School of Law (the “Law School”) connected to the Law School and to one another; to inform the Law School community and the public at large of noteworthy developments at the Law School, including but not limited to the accomplishments of the students, faculty and alumni of the Law School; to provide a forum for direct communications between the members of the Association and the faculty and administration of the Law School; to maintain an open and ongoing dialogue with the senior administration of the Law School in order to communicate the views and concerns of the graduates; to make recommendations to the Dean of the Law School regarding those graduates, friends and supporters of the Law School who are worthy of special recognition; and to encourage the continued financial and morale support for the Law School.

The Association keeps you connected to the Law School in many ways: by letting you know about life at the School; by providing you with a link to students, faculty, and graduates; and by advising you of special programs and events of professional interest. The Association sponsors events throughout the year in New York, New Jersey, and Washington, D.C., as well as in other locations throughout the country and around the world. Participation in these events provides graduates with a means of maintaining contact with the Law School.

The Medal for Excellence, the Law School's most prestigious award, is presented annually to alumni and past or present faculty whose distinguished careers have demonstrated exceptional service to their profession and to the Law School and are notable for the qualities the Law School seeks to instill in its students: strong character and a sense of social and professional responsibility.
