Alumni Career Services

No matter where you are on your career path, the Law School’s Office of Career Services and Professional Development can counsel you about job hunting, changing your career, and subjects such as résumé writing and interview skills.

Public Interest/Public Service Work

If you are interested in pursuing fellowships or careers in the public or government sectors, Columbia Law School’s Social Justice Initiatives can provide you with resources, advice, networking opportunities, job listings, and more.  

Judicial Clerkships

The Law School’s Clerkship Office can assist you in all the ways that it assists current students, from processing and mailing applications to individualized counseling and access to Columbia Law School’s online databases and resources. Alumni considering applying for clerkships should email the director of academic counseling and judicial programming, Anne E. Green, or call 212-854-7269.

Job listings, available free of charge to all Columbia Law School graduates, are updated daily.

State Bar Exams 

Access the New York State Bar exam application at the New York State Board of Law Examiners.

Download the Certificate of Attendance and other forms by clicking on Bar Examination Information in the sidebar.

To request the completion of the certificate, contact the Law School registrar’s office at [email protected] or 212-854-2668. Inquiries regarding the bar exams of other states also may be directed to the Law School registrar’s office.

 

Take a Class

Alumni can continue their education by taking online and on-campus courses through the School of Professional Studies.

Columbia Law School also offers Executive Education and Non-Degree programs, with reduced rates for alumni. Led by Julia Miller, assistant dean,  Columbia Law School Executive Education offers legal training to practicing attorneys who need or want additional skills and knowledge to add to their practice and non-lawyers who would like a greater understanding of the relevant legal landscape in order to enhance their business skills.

Replacement Diplomas

You may order a replacement diploma from the Office of the Registrar if the original has been damaged or lost, or if you have changed your name. Replacement diplomas will display the signatures of the current Columbia University president and Law School dean but will show the original date of the award.

Academic Certifications

If you need to certify your Columbia Law School enrollment degree, you can request an academic certification, an official document provided by the Columbia University Office of the Registrar. You can also make this request via the National Student Clearinghouse website or by calling 703-742-4200.

Law Library 

Alumni have lifetime access to the Law School’s Arthur W. Diamond Law Library, located in Jerome L. Greene Hall. You can access all materials while on site (electronic resources are only available through public terminals in the library).

While alumni do not need an ID card for access, it may be helpful to get one, particularly if you will be utilizing the library during off hours. To get an ID card, visit the Library information office in Butler Library. 

The Law Library also offers document delivery through its Firm Services Division.

Alumni Policies and Access to the Arthur W. Diamond Law Library

Regular Semester

Columbia Law Alumni
Alumni have lifetime access to the Law School’s Arthur W. Diamond Law Library, located in Jerome L. Greene Hall. Before visiting the Columbia Law Library, Columbia Law alumni are encouraged to visit the Library information office inside Butler Library to obtain an alumni ID. This ID will allow an alumnus to swipe into the library on their own. If the alumnus does not have an alumni ID, the Law Library circulation staff will verify Law alumni status. Alumni have access to all on-site print material, can request off-site material through the circulation desk, may consult a reference librarian during reference hours, and have access to many online resources via the Law School’s Wi-Fi. Public access terminals for Westlaw and Bloomberg Law are located within the reference office.

Columbia University Alumni
Columbia University alumni must obtain an alumni ID from the Butler Library information office before visiting the Columbia Law Library. This ID will allow an alumnus to swipe into the library on their own. Exam Periods

Exam periods are stressful times for students.To minimize distractions, the Columbia Law Library restricts access to Columbia Law affiliates only. While the specific dates vary year to year, fall semester restricted access period begins around the end of November, and spring semester restricted access begins around the end of April. Columbia Law Alumni
Columbia Law Alumni may visit to access any specific print resources, may consult a reference librarian during reference hours, and have access to many online resources via the Law School’s wifi. 

Columbia University Alumni
Columbia University alumni may not use the Law Library during the restricted access periods.

As Columbia Law alumni, you may already be a member of a subscribing law firm that allows you to have certain materials/documents scanned or delivered via our Subscription Service

If you are not a member of a subscribing law firm, you may still be able to have some materials scanned and sent to you via our Document Delivery Service

CAA Arts Access

A program of the Columbia Alumni Association (CAA), Arts Access is a hub for experiences, insider access, and discovery. We connect artists, scholars, producers, and audiences through dynamic programs and resources. Membership is free and open to all alumni.

Columbia University Club of New York

Located at 30 West 44th St., in the heart of Midtown Manhattan, the Columbia University Club of New York offers membership to alumni from all divisions of Columbia University.

Fitness

Alumni and their families can sign up for memberships at the Dodge Physical Fitness Center, located on the Morningside Heights campus, to access Columbia’s pool, indoor track, squash courts, weight room, and other facilities.
